A map of the Great War battlefront in and around Stanisławów (Stanislau, Ivano-Frankivsk) in Eastern Galicia, at the southern end of the Brusilov Offensive in September 1916; although Lemberg had been defended from the Russian breakthrough, Stanislau was largely lost. This map was assembled by the Austro-Hungarian military from their earlier regional map sets, and overlayed with colored markings indicating the positions of trenches and the passages that led to them, wire entanglement defenses, battery positions, and destroyed bridges. At the time, batteries were prominent even in the urban area, while trenches at the front were heavily cut just three kilometers northwest of the city center. This map copy is from the WIG Map Archive.
