A complete and detailed map of medical spas (health resorts) in Galicia and Bukovina in 1862, annotated in Polish, and created for the Kraków Scientific Society by Teofil Żebrawski of the Commission for Therapeutic Bathing. The map uses symbols to identify eight kinds of treatment resources, based on plants, salts and other minerals, oils, and hot springs; developed bathing facilities are underlined in red. An important feature of the map is the careful plotting of large and small waterways across Galicia and Bukovina, along which many of the spa resources were located. The map reveals the concentration of medical spas in the south of Galicia, in the drainage basin of the Carpathian mountains. Original paper map sourced from auction by Dr. Alex Feller, then digitized and assembled by Gesher Galicia.
