A demographic map of the religious populations of Bukovina (Bukowina), a region alternating political status between Galician kreis and separate duchy during the period of Austrian rule. The map was drafted around 1900 by F.A. Brockhaus under the direction of Eduard Fischer, a Jewish colonel commanding the Austrian Gendarmerie in the region. Map colors indicate regions of majority and mixed populations of Jewish and four Christian religions; symbols indicate cities with significant Jewish populations, and the seats of administration for eleven religious denominations. The proportions of religions in the major cities of Czernowitz, Radautz, and Storozhynets are detailed as well. This camera image was provided to Gesher Galicia by map collectors and researchers Harrie Teunissen and John Steegh.
