A multicolor topographic map and general plan of Wieliczka (Groß Salze, Wielka Sól), and the nearby area drawn at 1:10,000 scale, detailed enough to show urban blocks and individual buildings. Wieliczka was (and is) famous for its rich salt mine which has been in operation since the 13th century. The map was produced in German language by the Austrian K.u.K. Military Geographical Institute in 1900 as part of a series on the Kraków region, though this copy was later stamped ominously with a Nazi swastika and the symbol of the German State Land Survey Service. Southwest of the Wieliczka town center, the Jewish hamlet of Klasno is visible in this view. This historic paper map is preserved by the US Library or Congress and digitized for the Mapster application.
