Russian Survey Map of Western Galicia 1915

A highly detailed map in Russian language of western Galicia produced by Warsaw-based cartographers and lithographers under the direction of Fr. Karpowicz, based on "the newest data". One of a pair of maps which cover the entire crownland of Galicia, at a time when Russia occupied much of the Austro-Hungarian territory due to military successes in the early months of World War I. The map depicts settlements from large cities to small villages, plus roads, railways, and waterways. Major mountain ranges are shown schematically. Along with its geographic value, the map is a useful reference for contemporary Russian spellings of hundreds of Galician place names.
