A full-color map of Austria-Hungary ca. 1897 from an English-language atlas of the world produced by Rand McNally and Company of Chicago. Individual crownlands are separately colored and labeled; Galicia (in pink) is at the northeastern boundary of the Habsburg empire. Most city names are given in their Polish versions; Lemberg and Cracow are exceptions. Major rivers are shown and labeled. Landscape relief is indicated by hachures and peak heights; only the Carpathians are so marked in Galicia. A key feature of the map is the depiction of the growing network of rail lines serving the major cities and interconnecting the entire empire. The scan of this historic map was sourced for Gesher Galicia by Jay Osborn from the David Rumsey Map Collection.
