Partial field sketch of the city of Stanisławów (Івано-Франківськ, Ivano-Frankivsk, Stanislau, סטאַניסלאַוו), from 1848. Roughly sketched in the field on 38 sheets at varying scales and orientations, the map's center was digitally assembled here from fragments, stretched and aligned to common features on an interwar street map. In addition to the market square with its unique central hall, the map shows several large churches, a large synagogue just off the main square, the original Jewish cemetery and a nearby Catholic cemetery, and well-developed neighborhoods organized into districts. House numbers are written on building and land plots, as well as property owner names outside the dense town center. This historic paper map is preserved by the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv (TsDIAL).
