Podgórze Indication Sketch ca. 1900
A near-complete full-color cadastral indication sketch of the city of Podgórze (Podgorza, Josefstadt, Podgorze) across the Wisła River from Kraków, from a ca. 1900 survey and lithograph sheet set. This is an intermediate-stage development map including both land and building parcel numbers plus house numbers, and with many owners' names written directly on their properties. The map features large and small market squares, two large churches and a prominent synagogue, both Jewish and Christian cemeteries, multiple rail lines and bridges, the ancient Krakus' Mound, and much more. By 1900 the Jewish community had rapidly grown to 30% of the city's total population. This historic paper map is preserved by the Archiwum Narodowe w Krakowie.
