A complete, partially-colored, lithographed cadastral map of the city of Kraków (Krakau, Cracow, Krakow, קרקוב), surveyed in 1848, revised and lithographed in 1856; surrounding the city are seven suburbs including Kazimierz, still an island between branches of the Wisła River. The modern city is easily recognizable in this 160-year-old map, which records all building and parcel numbers. All the features of a major 19th-c. city are shown, including hospitals, theaters, government and military buildings, schools, brickworks, breweries and a vodka distillery, several synagogues (the Kupa synagogue is labeled) and two large Jewish cemeteries, dozens of churches and monasteries, several meyerhofs, Wawel castle, and a southeastern rail extension from 1856. Images for this map were provided by the Archiwum Narodowe w Krakowie.
